Back from the Brink
I decided to start this site after overcoming a five year depression my psychiatrist described as the worst he had every treated. My aim is to create a community where those who have recovered can help those still suffering.

Beacon

Beacon provides consumers and professionals with information about e-health online applications for mental health and physical health disorders.  Websites throughout the world are reviewed and ranked by a panel of health experts.  Consumers can also submit rankings and comments.


beyondblue
beyondblue is a national, independent, not-for-profit organisation working to address issues associated with depression, anxiety and related substance misuse disorders in Australia. beyondblue is a bipartisan initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments with a key goal of raising community awareness about depression and reducing stigma associated with the illness.


Black Dog Institute
The Black Dog Institute is concerned with mood disorders. The website contains relevant information for both individuals and professionals.


Blue Pages
Blue Pages provides information about:

  • The symptoms of depression and how depression is diagnosed
  • which medical, psychological and alternative treatments work for depression (and which don't)
  • people, organisations, books, web sites and other resources that may be helpful if you are depressed
Blue Pages also offers:
  • Access to a specialised search engine that allows you to search over a large number of Australian and international depression sites as well as the Blue Pages site itself
  • Screening tests for depression and anxiety (so that you can see how your depressive symptoms compare with the symptoms of others your age)
  • A link to BluePages sister web-site, MoodGYM, which is designed to prevent depression
  • A link to BlueBoard, a bulletin board where people suffering from depression, and carers of people with depression, can discuss the issues affecting their lives.


BlueBoard

Online support group for people affected by depression, bipolar disorder and anxiety disorders.  It aims to destigmatise mental disorders, and to provide support, hope and opportunities for sufferers and carers to share successful coping strategies.  The group is run as a moderated bulletin board with strict protocols to enhance safety.


DepNet
This interactive website, managed by the Lumbeck Institute, is designed to provide people experiencing depression to communicate as a community.


e-couch

e-hub's latest interactive self-help program includes modules for social anxiety, generalised anxiety and depression.  It provides self-help training drawn from cognitive, behavioural and interpersonal therapies as well as relaxation and exercise. 


Even Keel
This Western Australian based group has on the ground support groups as well as the website, which offers fact sheets and information and an online support. Supporting people who experience bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression are key aims of this organisation.


Health Insight – Mental Health
This Australian Government sponsored website provides information about mental health and linkages to resources and organisations.


Lifeline Information Service
The Lifeline Information Service provides access to a variety of self-help tool kits with information about issues such as mental illness, depression, suicide prevention, and more. Living Well Feeling Well Program

The Living Well Feeling Well program is an internet program that is a convenient and motivating way to learn skills to improve your mental and physical wellbeing and to cope with challenging situations.  The program is offered free-of-charge to adults 18 years or older with access to the internet.  It is part of a research study being conducted by Swinburne University's eTherapy Unit.  Participation in the research study involves approximately 4 hours spread over a 3-month period to complete a number of internet-based surveys and the 3-week interactive program.


MaleHealth
This U.K. website provides information about a range of health and mental health issues, including depression, stress, self harming, as well as new updates on health related matters.


Men’s Peer Health Education
This Australian Government (DVA) website provides:

  • information on health and lifestyle issues
  • online Men's Health Peer Education manual
  • links to DVA publications
  • contact details for obtaining further information


MENDS
MENDS is a web-based information point on the MENDS (Men Exploring New Directional Strategies) program, currently offered for men wanting support and direction through any sort of major life transition. It offers online communities for participants, current and past, as well as facilitators.


Mental Earth Community
Mental Earth Community (MEC) is a free, independent, non-public, peer support site for people with mental illness of any type. Live chat, blogs, and forums available to adults. Strong emphasis on safety and security. This online community is supportive, non judgmental and understanding. From support forums about various mental disorders, medications and different coping skills, to leisure forums like art galleries and entertainment forums, MEC offers an environment for personal healing and growth.


Mental Health and Wellbeing
This site is a one-stop shop of all Government programs aimed at reforming and improving our mental health care system.
The Mental Health and Wellbeing website provides important information on Government health and employment programmes, funding opportunities, publications, and policies. For example, it includes information and updates on the Personal Support Programme, JobAccess and Research and Evaluation of Mental Health and Employment.


Mental Health Net
This US based website provides information about a wide range of mental health issues, including RSS feeds, downloadable resources including pod casts and web blogs.


Mental Health Wiki
Mental Health Wiki is a guide to mental health problems. It aims to provide high quality and up-to-date information by allowing contributors to edit and improve each other’s material. Contributors to Mental Health Wiki include health professionals, academic researchers, consumer or carers advocates and health service administrators. Mental Health Wiki is run by a team of researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia.


MH Chat
MH Chat provides individuals, or groups who offer any kind of social support, with tools to communicate online. We currently offer chat rooms, forums, web radio and now complete web hosting to eligible parties. You need not spend one penny getting your support group online as it is all free.


Ministerial Council for Suicide Prevention
MCSP has developed a new community website, which provides evidence-based information
for family members, friends and others who are concerned about someone who is in distress (in crisis) and potentially suicidal; or if they are currently supporting someone who is suicidal.


Mood Memos
This University of Melbourne sponsored website offers emails with information and self-help advice about mild depression. Mood Memos are free, confidential, and may help improve your mental health.


Moodgym
This ANU sponsored website offers a cognitive behaviour self help training course that will assist people experiencing depression. It is not an alternative to seeking clinical help.


Multicultural Mental Health Australia
The website provides information on mental health matters in a variety of languages and lists other websites offering this advisory.


National Network of Adult and Adolescent Children who have a Mentally Ill Parent
NNAAMI is a peer support organisation for adult and adolescent children of a parent with a mental illness. The organisation provides support through advocacy mutual help and discussion groups. The site has a Community section with links to an online forum poetry section and bulletin board to post personal stories on.


OnTrack

OnTrack aims to support the Australian community to achieve mental and physical health and wellbeing.  This is achieved in several unique ways:  Quizzes, Information; Referral and Programs that aim to provide people with the informations and skills that will enable them to manage their own problems, helping them to keep their lives "On Track".


Peace of Mind
A Canadian based resource on depression and anxiety. This site is beautifully made but requires Macromedia flash.


Read the Signs Campaign
A website targeted at men to increase information about suicide prevention, where to go for help and signs to look out for in oneself and one’s mates.


Real Men Real Depression
This US based website provides a voice for men who have experienced depression and sought help as well as user friendly information about depression, symptoms, treatment, action and services. It offers bi-lingual information resources.


SANE
The SANE website, which forms part of its community education role, provides fact sheets, research and information about depression as well as an online helpline to answer questions on depression.

Find out what happens Inside a Mens Group. This film was made in Australia, was unscripted and used no actors.


Victorian Transcultural Psychiatry Unit
The website provides information on mental health matters in a variety of languages.
